DR. URS STRAUBE

Urs is a physicist, a German patent attorney, and also a European patent, trademark, and design attorney who also holds a PhD in electrical engineering. Urs specializes in the technical areas of mechanics, electrical engineering, especially mechanical engineering, electronics, MEMS and nanotechnology.

Urs, who has dual Canadian and German citizenship, started working in the field of intellectual property in 2002 and has more than five years of experience in microelectronics research. He grew up in the Ortenau district of Southern Germany and studied physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Urs also studied outside Germany for more than five years completing a master’s thesis at the French laboratory Leti (Laboratoire d’Electronique de Technologie de l’Information) in Grenoble (France) and his PhD thesis on the fabrication of especially powerful MOSFETs at the Department of Electronics and Computer Science of the University of Southampton (UK). Along with his PhD work, he also took courses in economics at the Distance University of Hagen. Following his PhD, Urs studied “Law for Patent Attorneys” also at the Distance University of Hagen. After working in Wiesbaden, Frankfurt am Main and Munich, he decided to set up his own intellectual property law firm in his home town of Renchen which then merged with Dr. Apley’s firm in 2008.

Urs is a member of the German Organization of Intellectual Property and Copyright (GRUR), the Chamber of Patent Attorneys, the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi), the International Federation of Patent Attorneys (FICPI), the Association of German Engineers (VDI), the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE), and the Marketing Club Offenburg/Ortenau.
